Celebrating the Life of Shelby Dietrich Rector

Shelby fiercely cared for so many patients. She was always an advocate for those who needed a bigger voice, including the creation of Genetically Handicapped Persons Program (GHPP) in the 1970's. She really set the standard for team-based care that helps saves lives, and put the HUGS study on a solid financial footing when Chris Pitkin, HUGS founder, passed away. Her commitment never stopped, even after her retirement. She remained very engaged with HUGS over the years and played a major role in identifying many of the great HUGS leaders who now carry the torch on her behalf. She will be greatly missed.
